Ben Harmon
“Fight. Always. Fight.” -Ben Harmon
Ben always knew how to make others laugh with his silly and loving demeanor. He was a track and cross-country star for Avon High School with a 4 ½ minute mile. He even embraced his goofy personality by running across the field shirtless and in an Obama mask at an Avon football game. During his senior year of high school, Ben was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. He received treatment at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and he went into remission after 10 months of treatment. He graduated high school in 2016 and started at Purdue to study engineering. He was the president of his Sigma Chi Fraternity pledge class. Unfortunately, the cancer was rediscovered, and the chemo and radiation treatment didn’t work. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Every year, the BENefit mile is held to honor him and raise money and awareness for Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. Ben made it his goal to meet someone new every day. We remember the legacy he left, and he always gave back to others with a smile on his face. #HarmonStrong
