Lucy Dunham
Join us in celebrating Lucy Dunham as the Riley Kid of the Week!
Here’s Lucy’s story:
Lucy has been a “Riley Kid” since before she was even born. Just a few months after we found out we were expecting a baby, we discovered that Lucy had Down syndrome and a serious heart defect, called Complete Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD). We researched hospitals and knew that Riley Hospital for Children would provide the best care for Lucy and our family.
When Lucy was born, we were surprised to learn she had a second heart defect called Coarctation of the Aorta (CoA). The doctors at Riley repaired Lucy’s CoA at 6 days old and when she was 5 1/2 months old, she had open heart surgery to repair the AVSD.
Lucy is 14 now and Riley Hospital has been a part of Lucy’s entire life. Therapies, development milestones, surgeries, minor medical issues, major medical complexities, and her current diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension… the doctors and nurses at Riley Hospital have supported Lucy and our family through it all.
Despite her medical complexities, Lucy is a fun, witty, happy teenager. She loves art, music, dancing and pizza.
