Cohen Elliott
“Our Riley story began in 2019 when Cohen was 21 months old. After 5 days of a an extremely high fever, a rash covering his body, lethargy and 2 Doctor appointments telling me it was viral, we finally saw an Urgent Care Doctor who sent us to Riley Emergency Room. We arrived there around 9pm and after multiple tests, an X-ray, and an Echo, we got a diagnosis of Kawasaki Disease. Cohen was admitted right away under the care of Infectious Disease and Cardiology because Kawasaki can affect the heart. It is incredibly rare and very urgent that it is treated within 10 days of the onset of symptoms. Cohen’s fever was 105.6 and he was very sick. The next evening Cohen was treated with a few different medicines and the main one being IVIG. It is an 11 hour infusion to stop the inflammation that Kawasaki causes. We were in the hospital for a week and had the absolute BEST care from the staff there. We feel very blessed we caught it early. Cohen will forever have echocardiograms and stress tests in the future, but we are incredibly grateful as Kawasaki Disease is often misdiagnosed.
Cohen is our youngest child out of 3, and has so much personality! He is a spitfire of a child who LOVES trucks, dinosaurs, building Legos and being outside! He loves watching Bluey and Dinosaur Train. He played tee ball this Summer and that was a lot of fun to watch! Cohen loves his siblings and definitely enjoys being the “baby” of the family! We love when we go back to Riley and get to visit his Infectious Disease Dr. He holds a special place in our hearts for sure as well as the other staff!”
